Uwem Umanah, the abrasive and boisterous younger
brother of the Akwa Ibom Commissioner for
Information, Mr. Aniekan Umanah, has said that the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State
can comfortably win the 2015 governorship in the
state without the votes of the Oro people.
“It should be known that the five LGAs of Oro have
less than the vote of Oruk Anam,” Mr. Uwem Umanah
stated recently in an email he sent to Internet
discussion groups like Ibom Chronicle , Talk Hard,
Ibom Global and Naija Observer , while dismissing the
political significance of Oro throwing their weight
behind the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC)
in the forthcoming governorship election in Akwa
Ibom State.
Uwem Umanah, from the same Annang ethnic group
with Governor Godswill Akpabio, works as a media
assistant to his older brother, Aniekan Umanah and
the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Renewal,
Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem.
Umanah said the entire Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District
will vote for PDP.
He said, “Having done my calculations, very little or
nothing can stop the PDP from winning the
governorship elections. PDP will win the governorship
elections by between 68 and 70 percent of the total
votes.”
“I think Oron would not make the mistake of
counting from the top. They should also know that it’s
better to remain in the mainstream leadership
structure than floating like a ship without a
destination,” said Mr. Umanah who few months ago
stirred the hornets’ net when he called Akwa Ibom
former governor, Obong Victor Attah ‘senile’.
The Oro, which is the third largest ethnic group in
Akwa Ibom, have been consistent in voicing out their
displeasure against Governor Godswill Akpabio whom
they accused of not developing their area and also
scheming them out in the race for the 2015
governorship. They have threatened to vote against
PDP during the general election, if the party fails to
give the governorship ticket to an aspirant from the
area.
